Sensei Brian Hall currently holds the grade of 6th Dan black belt in Shotokan karate. He opened his first club in 1996 in Rheindhalin, Germany, and taught all over the world while serving in the British Army, opening a club where ever he was posted. He settled in South Shields in 2012 and opened the Gakushuin karate club with his now-wife Hayley. He was the head coach for the Army and combined services for many years and is now the head coach for KKO Great Britain who came 3rd at the 2019 WUKF World championships. Sensei hall is a former World and European Kumite (fighting) champion. He has now retired from competition and dedicates his time to teaching the next generation of champions.

In recent years, many new members have joined us at the club in South Shields and have made leaps and bound in their careers in karate, and we could not be prouder of them.
